The Sixty Four Project and the CAN-AM Edition Exhibit were created, designed and built by Mark Hitchcox. Mark is a retired Mechanical Engineer who conceived of the idea to create the the art installation and subsequent exhibit following a 2015 visit to the National Gallery of Canada, located in Ottawa, Ontario. The installation's development and design began in earnest in 2019. Fabrication began in early 2022 and was completed that year in October. Mark's efforts were supported by his very patient wife, Shelly. Mark and Shelly live in Fairfax, Vermont.
Mark's grandmother, mother and sister were all diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. The exhibit's goal is to honor them by raising funds for breast cancer research while promoting breast cancer awareness.
